In addition, Gabriel has filed all required technical reports and further supplementary evidence to the Romanian authorities in support of its permitting applications, the most important of which has been the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

Under Romanian law, an EIA Report must be prepared for a project of the size and scale of the Rosia Montana Project. The EIA Report for the Project was developed by a team of independent experts. The report analyzes all the aspects of the development, from the construction phase, going through the operational phase, mine closure and environmental rehabilitation, to the post-closure phase. These detailed plans will be used by the Romanian Government to determine whether to grant an environmental approval for the construction of the Project and an environmental permit for the operation of the new open pit mine. This document was filed with the Ministry of Environment in May 2006.

Please note that following the resumption of the Technical Analysis Committee's review of the EIA in 2010, RMGC compiled a number of explanatory notes to the EIA updating various chapters of the EIA Reports previously compiled. These explanatory notes can also be accessed through the link.
