Gabriel Resources Ltd. is a Canadian resource company listed on the TSX Venture Exchange under the symbol GBU. The Company’s current focus is the pursuit of annulment of the ICSID arbitral decision concerning its investments in Romania.
For over two decades, Gabriel pursued the permitting and development of the Roșia Montană gold and silver project in Romania. Gabriel and its subsidiaries invested over US$700 million in the project and related activities, including the delineation of gold, silver and copper deposits in the nearby Bucium area.
Gabriel holds an 80.69% interest in Roșia Montană Gold Corporation S.A. (“RMGC”), with the remaining 19.31% held by Minvest Roșia Montană S.A., a Romanian state-owned company. RMGC held the exploitation licence for the Roșia Montană project.
In July 2015, Gabriel commenced ICSID arbitration proceedings against Romania, alleging that the Romanian State had obstructed and prevented the development of the Roșia Montană and Bucium projects. The arbitration and subsequent annulment proceedings have since been the Company’s core focus.
Separately, in June 2024, the Romanian authorities rejected RMGC’s application to extend the Roșia Montană exploitation licence. RMGC has commenced proceedings before the Romanian courts seeking annulment of that decision.
